Key Roles

Executive Sponsor

The Staffordshire Strategic Board will identify an Executive Sponsor for each of the two identified outcomes to ensure, on behalf of the Board, that the outcome is delivered by focusing on the identified priorities.

The Executive Sponsor will:

  • Be responsible and accountable for the delivery of the shared outcome and priorities;
  • Identify a Commissioner to lead on each of the relevant priorities;
  • Work with the commissioner, and their line-manager, to check and challenge that the priorities are being delivered, the right partners are engaged and silo working is avoided;
  • Provide assurance to the Staffordshire Strategic Board that progress on delivering the outcome is on course, that appropriate partners are engaged and that work is taking place at the right level. Where barriers which are impeding progress haven't been resolved by other means, the Executive Sponsor will raise them with the Board;
  • Adhere to the key principles developed and agreed by the Staffordshire Strategic Partnership.

Commissioner

The Commissioner will be someone for whom this work is the 'day job' and s/he will:

  • Deliver the identified priority, ensuring it meets the needs of the overall outcome;
  • Engage the right partners at the right levels without creating unnecessary bureaucracy;
  • Utilise appropriate existing partnership working arrangements or set up groups if there is a specific task to be undertaken;
  • Undertake partnership working as part of the 'day job', incorporating actions for the partnership to own, and other, organisational action plans;
  • Provide updates on progress, partners engaged and identified barriers to the Executive Sponsor and line-manager;
  • Support the Staffordshire Observatory to provide an annual report on the progress of outcomes and priorities;
  • Adhere to the key principles developed and agreed by the Staffordshire Strategic Partnership.
