Comprehensive Area Assessment

The Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) is a new inspection and assessment framework for local authorities and public services that came into place in April 2009.

The CAA has two key elements, which inform each other:

  • Area Assessment - considers the outcomes for Staffordshire as a whole and how well partners are working together across Staffordshire to achieve these outcomes. It takes the outcomes we want to deliver for Staffordshire, as agreed by partners and stated in our Sustainable Community Strategy, and looks at our progress towards these outcomes.
  • Organisational Assessment - an assessment of individual organisations based on a use of resources assessment and a managing performance assessment. This assessment will be scored and a similar approach will be taken for organisations working across the partnership, including councils, PCTs, Police, Fire and Rescure Services/

Findings from the assessment is reported by the inspectorates to the public on an annual basis. The first CAA results for Staffordshire were published in December 2009 and can be found on the Audit Commission's 'One Place' website, by clicking on the following link and searching for Staffordshire:
