Meet the Board
The Shadow Board is chaired by Mr Matthew Ellis, Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, Staffordshire County Council.
The membership of the Board mainly reflects the proposed statutory requirements (outlined in the Health and Social Care Bill 2010-2011) but has been adapted to meet the needs of Staffordshire:

Matthew Ellis (Chair)

Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, Staffordshire County Council Matthew's responsibilities include deciding strategic partnerships and policy with the NHS, other key organisations and the LAA ; developing the Not for Profit, Voluntary Care Sector and private sectors and Adult Safeguarding for Staffordshire County Council. Since taking up the position in 2009. Matthew has been working on the challenges faced in Social Care and Health, where more and more people will increasingly need support. Staffordshire is now leading the way nationally in ensuring people have the control, choice and support to make lifestyle decisions which will help maintain their independence wherever possible as well as inspiring them to live life to the full.

Aliko Ahmed

Director of Public Health for Staffordshire
Aliko received his medical degree in 1992 and worked in clinical practice for several years before joining Medicines Sans Frontiers as an Epidemiologist. He received further specialist training at Cambridge University and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, going on to work on a global initiative to support national Mental Health Policy development in twelve World Health Organisation (WHO) countries. In 2007, Aliko was appointed a Consultant in Public Health Medicine at South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust. In 2010, Aliko took up the post of Director of Public Health. Aliko also serves as the Chair of Public Health Foundation of Nigeria. His responsibilities at Staffordshire include strategic leadership for improving public health and reducing health inequalities in Staffordshire; leading on commissioning and implementation of the Public Health program and interventions and strategic support for effective commissioning of health and wellbeing services.

Michael Cunningham

Chief Constable, Staffordshire Police
Mr Cunningham was appointed as Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police on 14 September, 2009. His police career began when he joined Lancashire Constabulary in 1987. He was operational across the constabulary area in a number of different ranks and became Blackpool's Divisional Commander in 2002. He became Acting Assistant Chief Constable of Lancashire Constabulary in 2005 and then Deputy Chief Constable in August 2007. He has a wide range of experience in operational policing, having been responsible for six territorial divisions and developing neighbourhood policing in Lancashire. His portfolio also included specialist operations, the investigation of serious and organised crime, and counter-terrorism. Mr Cunningham is lead of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Professional Standards Porfolio.

David Hughes

Chair of North Staffordshire Clinical Commissioning Group
Dr Hughes is responsible for leading the transition to local health services being commissioned by clinicians, whilst being supported by an experienced management team.
He also works part time at Moorland Medical Centre in Leek where he has worked since 1986, as the GP principal. He is a well known GP with strong relationships across North Staffordshire, Stoke on Trent and the whole local health economy. Until recently, he was the Chair of the North Staffordshire Local Medical Committee.
He worked previously as a member of Leek and Werrington PBC Group with the responsibility for urgent care.
He completed his studies including Bachelor of Surgery at Nottingham University and is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

Mike Lawrence

Cabinet Member for Children's Wellbeing, Staffordshire County Council
Mike was a police officer and continued to show a great interest in community wellbeing after he retired and becoming a county councillor in 2005. He represents the people of Cheslyn Hay and Essington.
Local born and bred, Mike has an active and personal interest in the wellbeing of future generations.
His responsibilities include ensuring the effectiveness, availability and value for money of all local authority children's services; improving outcomes for all children and young people and narrowing the outcomes gap for vulnerable groups of children and young people.

Robbie Marshall

Cabinet Member for Public Health and Community Safety, Staffordshire County Council
Robert been a county councillor since 1997 and was Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Infrastructure from 2009 - 2010. He has also been a district councillor for South Staffordshire Council since 1992 and was their Deputy Leader for Community Services from 2001 to 2009. His responsibilities include: Community Safety (inc Community Safety Partnerships), Violence, Drug and Alcohol misuse, Safer communities, Strategic Safeguarding and Public Health.

Mary Oates

Tamworth Borough Council Cabinet Member (representing District and Borough Councils)
Councillor Mary Oates has been a Tamworth Borough Council Cabinet member for six years.
Tamworth beorn and bred, she worked for the Children's Society for 10 years.
Her porfollio on the Tamworth Borough Council Cabinet includes responsibility for housing and health.
She is the lead district member on the Staffordshire Health and Wellbeing Board and her role is to ensure that all districts are represented, to ensure that their needs are taken forward and that key projects are extended across the county.

Steve Powell |
Chair of Stafford and Surrounds Clinical Commissioning Group
Steve is a proud Staffordian who has always lived and worked within the town. After running a successful business, Steve moved to the NHS and has been the Business Partner at the South Staffordshire's largest G.P Practice, Weeping Cross Health Centre since 1994
Steve has always played a key leadership role in Primary Care and as Chair of the Stafford & Surrounds Clinical Commissioning Group, led the Consortium to Pathfinder status.
Steve also Chairs the MSGH Commissioning Board, leads the Clinical Support Implementation Programme (CSIP), represents Health Commissioners on the Health & Wellbeing Board and is preparing the Consortium for early authorisation.

Eric Robinson

Director for People and Deputy Chief Executive, Staffordshire County Council
Eric started his professional life as a social worker, and has been a Director for ten years, firstly in Enfield and then in Cambridgeshire, where he led a £110m adult care integration and the set up of a new Childrens Department He joined Staffordshire County Council in 2005 as Director of Social Care and Health.
Eric's key responsibilities include ensuring that the needs of the citizens of Staffordshire are properly understood and that plans are put in place to address those needs; actively working with communities and partner organisation and too carry out the statutory duties of Director of Children's Services and Director of Adult Social Services.
