Sustainable Development
Vision
"Staffordshire will seek and adopt innovative and locally appropriate solutions to halt and, if possible, reverse environmental resource depletion and consequential problems such as climate change, caused by the collective failure to account for the non-human elements of the economy, the aim of which will be to find more sustainable ways to meet the economic, social and environmental needs of present generations that will not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
Partnership Chair
The Chair of the Sustainable Development Partnership is Stephen Brown who is the Chief Executive of Cannock Chase District Council.
Sustainable Development Partnership Event - April 2008
Forty people attended a successful Staffordshire LAA Sustainable Development Partnership event on Friday 25th April 2008 at the Forest of Mercia Innovation Centre, Chasewater. The theme of the event was "A Protected, Enhanced and Respected Environment" which is one of four priorities in the Sustainable Community Strategy for Staffordshire and, of course, a priority area in the Staffordshire LAA 2008-11.
Stephen Brown, Chief Executive of Cannock Chase District Council, gave a warm welcome to partners and thanked all those whose efforts had led to the successful delivery of the sustainable development targets in 2007-8. Stephen then went on to outline the agenda and set the scene. He also thanked Staffordshire County Council for hosting the event.
Christina Webb, Staffordshire Strategic Partnership Manager, followed by giving a brief overview of the 'new' LAA 2008-11, and a summary of the current activity - setting base-lines and targets and identified Delivery Leads developing delivery plans for each indicator or cluster of indicators.
Delivery Leads (or colleagues) for each of the four National Indicators agreed for inclusion in the 35 indicators for Staffordshire's LAA, gave presentations (below). Mike Kinghan from the Whittington and Fisherwick Environmental Group, also gave a presentation on the Whittington and Fisherwick Low Carbon Community. There is clearly much we can learn from their experiences.

NI 186 - Carbon Emissions
NI 191 - Waste
NI 197 - Biodiversity
