The Local Area Agreement: 2008/2011

What is the LAA?

The Local Area Agreement is a three year agreement made up of priorities which have been agreed by local partners across Staffordshire and by central Government.  The LAA is about increasing Staffordshire people's quality of life by improving local services and increasing economic prosperity.

Why do we need an LAA?

In 2007, central Government introduced legislation which made it a statutory requirement for every upper tier (County Council) to develop and agree a Local Area Agreement.

What period of time does the LAA cover?

The LAA is a three year agreement. It runs from 1st July 2008 to 31st March 2011.

The LAA is reviewed on an annual basis. This is to make sure that the priorities contained in the agreement are still the priorities for an area.

What does the LAA contain?

The LAA sets out the priorities for Staffordshire as agreed with Government Office for the West Midlands on behalf of central Government.  It contains 35 LAA improvement targets, which will help partners understand if we are achieving our priorities.

The 35 LAA improvement targets are set out in the LAA Submission.  The submission is available to download below.

Final LAA Submission - 4th June 2008

The final LAA Submission was submitted to Government Office West Midlands on the 4th June 2008.  The final submission is available in two sections:

There are three other documents, which support the LAA submission:

The Story of Staffordshire - this provides the context for our vision and priorities. It also helps to provide a clear rationale for our 35 LAA Improvement Targets.

The Persuasive Rationale - this sets out in more detail the evidence to support the inclusion of each of the 35 LAA Improvement Targets.

Who is delivering the LAA?

Staffordshire County Council is working with partners to deliver the LAA. Individual partners have agreed to help deliver certain LAA improvement targets.

The LAA Submission shows which partners have 'signed up' to deliver each LAA improvement target.

Partners helping to deliver the LAA include - Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Staffordshire Police, Learning Skills Council, Jobcentre Plus, Connexions, Cannock Chase District Council, East Staffordshire Borough Council, Lichfield District Council, Newcastle Borough Council, South Staffordshire District Council, Stafford Borough Council, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Tamworth Borough Council, South Staffordshire PCT, North Staffordshire PCT, Staffordshire Consortium of Infrastructure Organisations and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, amongst many others!
