Our Priorities

Strong, safe and cohesive communities

What will this mean for Staffordshire?

Staffordshire's communities and citizens will feel safe and be safe, and the fear of crime and actual crime, particularly violent crime will be reduced.

Our communities will benefit from accessible, integrated and responsive services, which meet their needs and which they have had a voice in shaping.

We will be known for our enterprising and thriving third sector, which is rooted in our communities.

Across the County a social enterprise culture will exist, which plays an important part in raising skills and aspirations and in the delivery of key services such as recycling, caring and domestic services.

Our communities will continue to benefit from a strong cultural provision, which enriches everyone's quality of life.

Local Area Agreement for Staffordshire

Staffordshire's people tell us what 'Strong, safe and cohesive communities' means to them:

"Diverse and cohesive communities can be interpreted in many ways. As well as fitting into the community, individuals should be able to share and celebrate their own cultures. In turn this helps facilitate understanding and learning of the varied cultures we have in Burton. It's also important for us to involve young people in the community.

I've noticed a dramatic improvement in crime and safety. There are a lot more police officers walking the beat and I think that gives residents encouragement that if there is a problem they have a direct point of contact within their own community, rather than having to go into the Police Station." (Aisha)

"It's about people knowing each other, looking out for each other and giving each other support. It's about community groups, young and old being seen as together, not that there's a big battle between. Maybe the media causes a negative image of young people so the community doesn't feel safe around young people. We need to change this." (Joe)

"I think if communities get on, it makes a much happier society, and people do get on. It means friendship to anyone who you happen to meet. That creates cohesion and its important that most societies are reasonably cohesive." (Peter)
